Invertebrates are animals without backbones, and you are going to know the names, phylums, and characteristics of these backboneless animals.
First, we have Protozoa. And is on the small side of invertebrates. Microscopic size I should say. Phylum: Protozoa
Phylum: Protozoa
Animals: Amoeba, Euglena, etc.
Characteristics:
- It is a unicellular animal and it is a smobise.
- Thes Amoebas and Euglena are Microspocic invertebrates.
- They can only be seen with a microscope and are unicellular animals.
They move in three ways:
- ameboid movement.
- movement with flagella.
- movement with cilia.
And now Poriferas,
- Phylum: Porifera
- Animals: Sea sponges
Characteristics:
- They live in the ocean and are sponges. Some of them have holes in them too.
- Porifera are sea sponges on the ocean.
- There are some Poriferas that have holes on top of them which they use to digest.
- Also, they are not microscopic animals and have a simple body structure.
Now for Coelenterata. What could it be?
Coelenterata.
Phylum: Coelenterata.
Animals: Jellyfish, Hydra, etc.
Characteristics:
They have tentacles to move around and also use those tentacles to eat stuff.
Jellyfish and Hydra are some of the Coelenterata. Most of the Coelenterata are aquatic, meaning they live in the ocean or any other water body. And they also have tentacles to kill and eat the prey. Like the Jellyfish.
Platyhelminthes
Now Platyhelminthes. Are the animals good or dangerous, or WORSE?
Phylum: Platyhelminthes.
Animals: Tapeworm, Liver flukes.
Characteristics:
They are parasites and get careful! Don't get infected by one. Who knows what will happen?
This Platyhelminthes phylum consists of dangerous parasites. Like the tapeworm. Not only are they bad, but they are also bad for your eyes as well! That's because getting a close look at a tapeworm will definitely become your nightmare for the night.
Nemathelminthes
Nemathelminthes? Sounds cool. But what is it?
Phylum: Nemathelminthes
Animals: Roundworms
Characteristics:
They are bad for your health and they are parasites.
Nemathelminthes also contain a number of parasitic animals like the roundworm and they live inside your intestines. And they can also be found in stool. Pretty disgusting.
Arthropods? You surely know about it right? Seriously, you probably already know this one.
Arthropoda
Phylum: Arthropoda.
Animals: Spider, Cockroach, Caterpillar, etc.
Characteristics:
They are the largest of all the invertebrates and the most well-known one. The good ol' Arthropoda. They consist of the insects we know today. Not much for this one really.
Annelida
Annelida. Who knows if it's not disgusting or not?
Phylum: Annelida
Animals: Earthworm, Leech, etc.
Characteristics:
They are worm-like creatures and some of them are bad, some are good. They are Annelida. Where our good ol' friend lies, the earthworm. They are worms-like things and they are mostly found in rain, where they don't dry out.
Mollusca
Mollusca. Pretty hard shell for the snail though.
Phylum: Mollusca
Animals: Slugs and Snails.
Characteristics:
They have soft-bodied skin and some have a hard shell to protect them. Mollusca is a phylum that contains slugs and snails that we all know. And those animals either have a shell or not. And they also are found mostly in the rain.
Echinodermata
Echinodermata. Do they live on air? I don't think so!
Phylum: Echinodermata
Animals: Starfish, sea-urchin
Characteristics:
They live on the ocean and move. Pretty slow or not move at all. The animals of this phylum contain starfish. And these animals are found on the ocean on land. Hope you understand the last part because I had no other way to describe it.
