Shady little tricks of websites. (Part 1)

Creative Writng Of Kid

Okay, we all know what a website is. I hopefully don't need to explain this, but anyways, sometimes websites go a little too far on getting more people to use them. So here are the things that they do, and don't fall into them! Oh and also, they are also called "Dark Patterns"

                                  Confirmshaming

This is a shady trick where websites basically make the "No" options something terrible to guilt you into clicking the "Yes" button. Here's an example:

Would you like to subscribe to our thing?

No, I would like to miss out on an amazing offer.
                                                   Yes

                               Separated email lists.

This is where a shady website separates their email lists, so when you want to unsubscribe from them, you have to separately click on all of them or as a whole. Because we humans are lazy individuals, we won't do it. So you just keep on subscribing till the end of time. Here's a *useless* example:

Email thingy#1: Unsubscribe? Click here: PIZZA
Email thingy#2: Unsubscribe? Click here: PIZZA
Email thingy#3: Unsubscribe? Click here: PIZZA
Email thingy#4: Unsubscribe? Click here: PIZZA
Email thingy#5: Unsubscribe? Click here: PIZZA
Email thingy#6: Unsubscribe? Click here: PIZZA
Email thingy#7: Unsubscribe? Click here: PIZZA
Email thingy#8: Unsubscribe? Click here: PIZZA
Email thingy#9: Unsubscribe? Click here: PIZZA
Email thingy#10: Unsubscribe? Click here: PIZZA
Email thingy#11: Unsubscribe? Click here: PIZZA

Yes  and No button switcharoo

Sometimes, websites will switch the Yes and No button so you accidentally click on the wrong button. Here's an example:

                                  Sign up for our website?
           Yes                                                     No*click*
                                                *2 secs later*
                                     Sell your soul?
           No                                                      Yes*click*

Got it now?

Advantage of the Terms and Conditions

Here's a question for ya. Have you ever read the terms and conditions? That's what I expected. Website owners know this, so they put something crazy on the terms and conditions, I mean, it's not like you read it ;). Here's an example:

                             Sign up for our website?

Do you agree to the TOS? Yes   No

Sign up to our website, and also, if you suddenly disappear from your sleep, get kidnapped and get your kidney stolen, or possibly die, then we are in charge of those. Oh, and if you click on the "Sign up" button, your soul will be sold. Don't you dare sue us or you WILL get killed.

                                                                     Thank you :)
